Required previous education

Before you take the entrance examination, you must have gained a diploma from one of the following education programmes:

  • Dutch “General Secondary Education” (HAVO) or “Pre-University Education” (VWO);
  • Dutch “Higher Professional Education” (HBO);
  • Dutch “Preparatory Vocational Education” (VBO) lasting at least three years;
  • Dutch “Senior Secondary Vocational Education” (MBO) lasting at least three years, with a certificate showing that you passed the final examination;
  • Comparable state examinations or certificates.

What should you do if you do not have one of these diplomas?
In exceptional cases, candidates can be admitted after taking a test to show that they have a sufficient level of general education to be able to study at the Maastricht Academy of Music. The test is administered by AOB Compaz, an educational consultancy organisation based in Eindhoven (tel. +31 (0)40 236 4795). The charge for taking the test must be paid by the candidate.
